Blake Jarwin expected to miss start of season, Cowboys interested in re-signing Dalton Schultz

The Dallas Cowboys have spent the past four seasons with both Blake Jarwin and Dalton Schultz on their roster at tight end. Between the 2018 and 2019 campaigns, Jarwin hauled in six touchdown receptions in the regular season and went for nearly 700 receiving yards combined, while Schultz has stepped up during Jarwin's injury absences in the past two years with 12 receiving scores and over 1,400 yards gained through the air.

Schultz and Jarwin are only 25 and 27 years old, respectively, and won't celebrate their next birthdays until July (five days apart), so Dallas would ideally have both players available for the 2022 season. Multiple reports on Thursday relay that a recent surgery for Jarwin might be throwing a wrench into those plans though.

In 2018, Jarwin finished in the top-five on the Cowboys in targets, receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. Schultz put up even bigger numbers, finishing third in receptions (63) and second in touchdowns (four) in 2020, and he was one of Dak Prescott's most reliable weapons this past year.

Schultz ended the 2021 season tied with Amari Cooper for the team lead in touchdown receptions (eight), was one catch behind CeeDee Lamb for the Dallas lead in receptions (78), and tied Cooper for second in targets (104) and third in receiving yards (808.)

Schultz is sure to be a hot commodity as the offseason continues, but especially with Jarwin's status reportedly up in the air, the Cowboys could push hard to bring back the former fourth-round pick.
