Cowboys reportedly shopping veteran offensive lineman La'el Collins

The Dallas Cowboys are "having active trade conversations" involving offensive tackle La'el Collins, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Collins, 28, began his career as a starter at left guard with the Cowboys before transitioning to right tackle. He's made 71 starts in seven years with the Cowboys, missing significant time in 2016 due to a toe injury and the entire 2020 season with a hip injury. Collins missed the first five games of the 2021 season due to a violation of the NFL substance-abuse policy.

In 2015, Collins was at the center of a bizarre saga when news broke two days before the NFL Draft that he was wanted by police for questioning about the shooting death of his ex-girlfriend. While Collins was never a suspect in the case, he slid from a prospective first-round pick and went undrafted instead. Collins eventually signed a deal with the Cowboys close to a week after the end of the draft.

Collins received a five-year contract extension from the Cowboys just before the beginning of the 2019 season. It's due to pay Collins $10 million in base salary in each of the next three seasons.
