Cowboys star Micah Parsons blasts Giants for Daniel Jones decision

Dallas Cowboys superstar pass-rusher Micah Parsons ripped New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll for leaving starting quarterback Daniel Jones in Sunday's 40-0 Dallas win at MetLife Stadium long after the game's outcome had been decided.

"It’s called protecting your guy," Parsons said about the situation during his Bleacher Report podcast, as shared by Mike Rosenstein of the New York Post. "You know, something I thought the Giants should’ve done. I don’t think Daniel Jones should’ve been in that game in the fourth quarter. I thought they should’ve protected him and pulled him out. And barring injury, their season will be over without Daniel Jones."

Daboll received criticism from fans and analysts alike for allowing Jones to take unnecessary hits when New York was facing a 40-point deficit in the fourth quarter of the Week 1 contest. Per the Giants website, Daboll told reporters shortly after the loss that he "was gonna let (Jones) see it through there just until that last series" because the coach "wanted to try to get...a positive drive and try to punch the ball into the end zone."

A touchdown wouldn't have impacted the final result and, on paper, wasn't worth risking Jones' health.

"I do not agree with Daniel Jones staying out there until that last drive," Parsons continued. "I thought that was wrong, I thought it was deceiving."

For what it's worth, Jones insisted during his postgame comments that he "wanted to stay in" and that there "wasn't any conversation" with Daboll about living to fight another day. Parsons nevertheless thinks Daboll should've saved Jones from himself.

"That’s your franchise quarterback and he’s out there with a backup offensive line still getting sacked and hit," Parsons added. "I just didn’t understand. Maybe it was a you know, prove-it moment by the Giants, I have no idea. A learning lesson, who knows? But I thought Daniel Jones should’ve got pulled out, so technically it’s not benched."

Jones survived playing on the treacherous and rain-soaked MetLife Stadium surface through Sunday night and should be good to go for this coming weekend's matchup at the Arizona Cardinals. While Daboll can't undo what occurred, one wonders if he'll approach a similar scenario differently down the road.
