Cowboys' Stephen Jones doesn't commit to Dak Prescott starting vs. Lions

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott said after Sunday's 26-17 loss at the Philadelphia Eagles that he expects to return to the lineup against the 1-4 Detroit Lions.

It appears not everybody involved has embraced that timeline as of the start of the midweek.

According to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones explained during a Monday appearance on Dallas sports radio station 105.3 The Fan that the club hasn't yet made a decision about Prescott's availability for the Week 7 encounter.

"Well, that still remains to be seen," Jones said about Prescott possibly playing against Detroit, according to Alper. "Obviously seeing where Dak is feeling really good about himself, that’s the most important thing of all is that he feels like he can throw the ball the way he needs to throw it to be successful. Certainly, we’ll see what the week brings and see if he’ll be able to be consistent this week with how he feels with that thumb and we’ll go from there. But, again, I can’t say enough about Cooper Rush."

Prescott hasn't played since he suffered a serious thumb injury in Week 1 and watched as Rush guided Dallas to four consecutive wins and sparked a potential quarterback controversy in the process. However, Rush largely came back down to earth at Philadelphia and completed just 18-of-38 passes for 181 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions in the losing effort.

If Prescott isn't cleared to start for the 4-2 Cowboys versus the Lions, his next chance to return would be for the home game against the Chicago Bears on Oct. 30 that precedes Dallas' bye week.
