Dak Prescott expects to return Sunday against Lions

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott expects to return this Sunday against the Lions. "That's my plan," said Prescott following a 26-17 loss to the Eagles, per ESPN's Ed Werder.

Prescott suffered a fractured right thumb in Week 1 that forced him to miss the past five games. He was seen throwing in practice and before the game against the Eagles. If he continues to throw with no discomfort, along with a full week of practice, all signs point to a return.

"The key for Dak Prescott is to be able to be out on the field on Wednesday," said NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. "If he's able to practice on Wednesday...he has a really good chance of playing on Sunday."

Practicing on Wednesday could ultimately determine if he will play this Sunday. However, it seems like Prescott already made significant progress last week.

"Physically, he's got his power back. You feel it in every throw," said wide receiver CeeDee Lamb in a Thursday news conference.

Hearing Prescott's throws show power should give the Cowboys confidence as they look to remain in the playoff race. They are 4-2 and have a top-10 defense, something that has helped them weather Prescott's absence. The offense played well enough under backup Cooper Rush but needs more big plays. The offense averages 300.8 yards per game, which is below the league average.

Prescott provides a jolt as his arm strength and ability to extend plays helps the offense make more big plays downfield.
