Cowboys' Stephen Jones: 'There is just no place' for fans throwing things at refs

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott generated laughs and also some negative reactions when he seemingly defended fans allegedly tossing objects toward referees shortly after Sunday's home postseason loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones didn't seem amused over the matter when speaking with local radio station 105.3 The Fan on Monday.

"That’s just unfortunate," Jones said about the controversial actions of some spectators, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. "That’s not the way I see our fans. I think we are a class act. There is just no place for that."

It remains unclear if at least some of the fans were throwing things at Dallas players and not referees following the conclusion of the contest that involved Prescott shockingly running a quarterback draw with under 15 seconds on the clock and no timeouts in hand, a decision that prevented the signal-caller from spiking the ball before the game's final seconds ticked away. As Florio noted, in-stadium cameras could allow the Cowboys to identify guilty parties and potentially ban them from attending future games.

Jones added during his radio appearance that he "absolutely" expects Mike McCarthy will remain Dallas head coach despite the criticism he's received following what became a questionable final offensive play call against the Niners. McCarthy and company will now have weeks and months to think about that decision following Dallas' latest playoff defeat.
