Cowboys TE Dalton Schultz bounces back against Titans
Dallas (12-4) needs another weapon in the passing game. Cowboys tight end Dalton Schultz flashed why he's still a trustworthy asset, scoring two critical second-half touchdowns in a 27-13 victory over the Titans (7-9), on Thursday.
Schultz juiced an offense that struggled to move the ball without playmakers like Tony Pollard, who sat due to a thigh injury. Dallas turned over the ball three times in the first half, including two Dak Prescott interceptions.
Afterward, Schultz came to the rescue, scoring a pair of touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters helping the Cowboys pull away from Tennessee, squashing any hopes of an upset after their sloppy first half.
He finished with 56 receiving yards—his second-highest this season—on seven receptions.
Schultz finding a potential groove is ideal timing for Dallas, too, because it potentially solves a problem.
Throughout the season, the Cowboys struggled to find a consistent No.2 option to complement CeeDee Lamb, who leads the team in receiving by 763 yards over Noah Brown, the team's second-most productive receiver by yardage.
While Lamb plays at an elite level, the lack of a passing arsenal limits Dallas' offensive capability forcing Prescott to press and make mistakes.
Prescott's picks emphasize the issue. He's thrown a career-high 14 in 11 starts.
In 2021 Prescott threw 10 in 16 starts, while Schultz had 104 catches over 17 games. In 2022, Schultz has been much quieter, catching 70 passes in 13 games.
Perhaps Schultz's performance announces that he's back and ready to be a pivotal piece in a playoff run.
