Dak Prescott hopes Cowboys will 'value' his opinion on personnel decisions

Shortly after the Dallas Cowboys fell to the San Francisco 49ers 23-17 in the wild-card round of the playoffs, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones heavily endorsed Dak Prescott as his starting quarterback moving forward but publicly criticized other members of the roster, specifically wide receiver Amari Cooper. 

While Cooper could become a salary-cap casualty next month, Prescott signed a four-year contract that could be worth more than $160 million nearly one year ago. USA Today's Jori Epstein recently asked Dallas' QB1 how being on such a lucrative deal impacts his mindset this offseason. 

"I didn’t think about it until you said it," Prescott explained. "But it just allows you to be fresh and be certain on everything and know obviously you’re here. There’s no questions. You can help the team make decisions." 

Prescott added whether or not he has a say in who stays or who goes when the new NFL year opens next month "depends on whether they ask me" beforehand. 

"I’m not going in and knocking on doors saying, 'Hey, I want this done, I want that done,'" Prescott remarked. "But I’m pretty sure that my opinion will be valued in certain decisions, as I hope. So with that being said, just plan on helping this team get better in every which way I can."
