The 2024 NFL Draft has multiple talented quarterbacks at the top, but there are also some incredibly athletic players who will hear their names called on Thursday night.
NFL insider Daniel Jeremiah joined Pardon My Take earlier this week and revealed his three biggest freak athletes in the draft.
Jeremiah went with two receivers and a defensive tackle.
“Brian Thomas is way up there. You can go Brian Thomas. I mean receivers are going to be the easy ones – and Adonai Mitchell,” Daniel Jeremiah said. “Both of those guys, LSU and Texas. Like total, total freak show dudes.”
Brian Thomas caught 68 passes for 1,177 yards and 17 touchdowns this past season as he was one of Heisman winner Jayden Daniels‘ top targets.
Thomas is 6-foot-3, 209 pounds and ran a 4.33 in the 40-yard dash at the combine.
As for Adonai Mitchell, he caught 55 passes for 845 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2023, helping Texas to the College Football Playoff. At the combine, Mitchell measured at 6-foot-2, 205 pounds. He ran a 4.34 in the 40.
With his third pick, Daniel Jeremiah went with defense.
“I want to get somebody on the defensive side of the ball,” he said. “In his own way I think Byron Murphy’s got some freak to him – defensive tackle from Texas. He’s not a huge dude but just super, super twitched up and explosive.”
Byron Murphy ran a 4.87 in the 40 at the combine, measuring in at 6-foot, 297 pounds.
This past season with the Longhorns, Murphy earned second-team All-American honors after recording 29 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, and 5 sacks.
Jeremiah didn’t stop there, though. He was also asked for a late-round pick who is a freak athlete who could make plays in the NFL.
He went with an inexperienced football player from England.
“I’ll give you this name that’s kind of a fun one. It’s Travis Clayton,” Jeremiah said. “This dude is 6-7. He’s 301 pounds. He’s a tackle. He ran 4.81. I say he’s a tackle, he’s from England. So he hasn’t played. He’s played soccer. He’s been a boxer and he’s been a rower.
“I don’t have any idea how any of that translates to the NFL, but I did spend 15 minutes of a Saturday watching a workout, and I’ve convinced myself that in the sixth round, this guy’s going to end up being an unbelievable player. … I’m telling you, I’ve never given someone so much credit for running over a bag, but I’m like, ‘This is crazy, look at this guy move. This is beautiful.’”
