DeAndre Hopkins has reportedly had discussions with several teams

It’s presumed that Arizona Cardinals receiver DeAndre Hopkins will be playing for a different team in 2023, but when exactly the star WR will be traded still remains uncertain.

With just 10 days before the 2023 NFL Draft, Hopkins may be no closer to being traded, but there has at least been some headway made on a potential move.

“He has been speaking to several teams over the last month or so,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said. “They do not have a deal yet. … I don’t believe he wants a raise. I do believe he’d end up with a new contract in some form or fashion, likely to make it easier salary cap-wise on his new team. We’ll see if there’s other ways to tinker with that contract.”

Hopkins tweeted and deleted over the weekend that he was not looking for a raise to facilitate a trade. However, his contract is likely a sticking point in most negotiations as he carries a $19.45M base salary and a $29.98M cap hit.

The Cardinals granted Hopkins permission to seek a trade, however, parting ways with him pre-June 1 would cost the Cardinals $21.07 million in dead money and save them just $8.9M in cap space.

During a recent appearance on the “All Things Covered” podcast, Hopkins seemingly suggested that he would be in favor of playing for the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs and he had no desire to play for the New England Patriots or New York Jets.

Buffalo and Kansas City would have to get creative to fit Hopkins under the cap. The Bills currently have approximately $5.6M in cap space, according to Over the Cap, while Kansas City has approximately $4.4M.

It was also reported over the weekend that Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson asked the team to acquire Hopkins and Odell Beckham Jr. Baltimore signed Beckham Jr. to a one-year deal worth up to $18M.
