The Denver Broncos have done something they have never done before in this year’s NFL Draft.

By selecting Oregon stars Bo Nix and Troy Franklin, it marks the first time in franchise history that the Broncos have drafted a quarterback-wide receiver duo from the same school, via Broncos senior coordinator of communications Tyler Gorse.

Denver took Nix with the 12th overall pick on Thursday night and then grabbed Franklin in the fourth round on Saturday.

Nix was viewed as the fifth or sixth-ranked quarterback prospect heading into the draft, depending on who you ask. He was the sixth signal-caller selected.

The 24-year-old is coming off of a fantastic 2023 campaign in which he threw for 4,508 yards, 45 touchdowns and three interceptions while completing 77.4 percent of his passes. He also rushed for 234 yards and six scores.

Nix began his collegiate career at Auburn and spent three seasons there before transferring to Oregon in 2022. He totaled 3,593 yards, 29 touchdowns and seven picks in his debut campaign with the Ducks, completing 71.9 percent of his throws and adding 510 yards and 14 scores on the ground.

Franklin was Nix’s top target in 2023, as he hauled in 81 receptions for 1,383 yards while reaching the end zone 14 times.

The 21-year-old arrived at Oregon in 2021 and began to show signs of breaking out in his sophomore year, when he caught 61 passes for 891 yards and nine touchdowns.

We’ll see if Nix and Franklin can continue their connection with the Broncos next season.
