The Denver Broncos were present at Washington’s pro day on Thursday to evaluate quarterback Michael Penix, indicating a keen interest in the prospect.

A delegation from Denver’s front office, including the pass game coordinator, college director, and two scouts, attended Penix’s workout, as reported by Jim Nagy.

At 23 years old, Penix is often ranked as the fifth or sixth-best quarterback in the upcoming draft class. He typically falls behind notable prospects such as Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, and J.J. McCarthy, with Bo Nix also in a similar range.

Penix’s collegiate journey saw him spend four years at Indiana before transferring to Washington. However, concerns linger over his draft stock primarily due to injury history. He has faced significant setbacks, including torn ACLs in 2018 and 2020, as well as shoulder injuries in 2019 and 2021.

With the Broncos holding the 12th overall pick in the NFL draft, Penix is projected to be within their reach. In a recent seven-round mock draft, Denver was seen trading down from the 12th pick to secure Penix later in the first round.

Denver’s thorough scouting efforts have extended to several other quarterback prospects, including Williams, Daniels, Maye, McCarthy, Nix, Michael Pratt, and Spencer Rattler. These prospects were also among those the team met with during the NFL combine, indicating their significance on the Broncos’ draft board.

The 2024 NFL draft is slated to take place in Detroit from April 25-27, where the fate of prospects like Penix and others will be decided.
