Derek Carr 'scared' for Trent Brown after IV mishap

Las Vegas Raiders offensive tackle Trent Brown was set to return to the lineup on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns after missing Week 7 due to a COVID-19 diagnosis, but a pregame mishap sent him to the hospital instead.

Brown remained hospitalized on Monday after a pregame IV mistake resulted in air entering his bloodstream. The mishap prompted concerns over a potential air embolism, according to ProFootballTalk, which is a life-threatening condition.

The NFL Players Association has launched an investigation into the incident, and Raiders quarterback Derek Carr expressed concern for Brown following Sunday's 16-6 win over Cleveland.

“Honestly, I’m human; I got a little scared for Trent,” Carr said, according to Peter Botte of the New York Post. “I was like, man, I hope he’s OK. We had no clue what was happening. All of a sudden, we come in, and they’re wheeling him out and I’m like, ‘Bro, what is going on?’ It was crazy and so we prayed."

“As a team, we prayed for him. We made sure he was OK, his family, because I’m sure they were scared to death. But then, you have to compartmentalize what just happened with ‘We have to go win a football game.’”

Brown signed a four-year, $66 million deal with the Raiders before the 2019 season. He has dealt with a number of injuries since signing with Las Vegas and has only been able to play at least 10 snaps in 11 of 23 games with the organization.
