It was an emotional night for the Detroit Lions. In a close battle with the Los Angeles Rams and former Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, it was Detroit that came out on top by the final score of 24-23. However, that is not the only piece of good news that the Lions received today.

Detroit Lions Get Another Home Playoff Game

Earlier, the Green Bay Packers made NFL playoff history by upsetting the Dallas Cowboys. They became the first 7-seed to defeat a 2-seed since the NFL postseason expanded in 2020. This greatly benefited the Lions.

The reason why is the Lions are the 3-seed in the NFC. So, if Detroit came up with a win tonight against Los Angeles, the Motor City would be able to host yet another home playoff game after a long drought. It came down to the wire, but the Lions were able to provide that additional home game the city was starving for.

Detroit Lions Ended Home Playoff Drought

Tonight was the first time in 30 years the Lions hosted a home playoff game. However, that home game in the 1993-94 season ended with a loss to the Packers. Detroit had not won a home playoff game since the 1991-92 season. So, after not having a home playoff game for three decades, the Lions will now have two within two weeks.

Now, the Lions can finally get that monkey off of their back. The Lions will play the winner of tomorrow night’s wild card game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Philadelphia Eagles.
