Did Rams give Sean McVay a raise after Super Bowl win over Bengals?

Shortly before the Los Angeles Rams defeated the Cincinnati Bengals to win Super Bowl LVI in February, Rams head coach Sean McVay teased somewhat out of nowhere that he could retire sooner than later and pursue opportunities working as an analyst for an outlet such as Amazon. Amazon, meanwhile, was reportedly willing to offer $20 million a year over five years to convince the 36-year-old to join its "Thursday Night Football" crew ahead of the upcoming season. 

Nothing came of such stories, and Rams chief operating officer Kevin Demoff hinted in March that McVay and general manager Les Snead would both soon receive new deals to reward them for their championship-winning campaign. As Mike Florio noted for Pro Football Talk, though, the Rams haven't yet announced an extension or new contract for McVay. 

For a lengthy piece published on Tuesday morning, ESPN's Seth Wickersham suggested McVay has received a pay increase since the winter months. 

"Months after that morning, as he sits at a table and describes it, McVay is certain of one thing: If they had lost to the Bengals, he definitely wouldn't have this new house," Wickersham wrote. "Would Amazon have courted a two-time Super Bowl loser, offering a booth job for $20 million a year, after word on the street was that he had finally burned himself out coaching? McVay isn't convinced. Either way, he wasn't ready to leave his job, and he received a raise."

PFT's Josh Alper noted back in December 2016 that then-Rams coach Jeff Fisher admitted at that time he had signed an extension "well before the season started." Perhaps McVay will offer a similar comment to reporters at some point before 2022 comes to an end.
