Discrepancy between Dolphins, Jets offenses shown with one remarkable statistic

The high-powered Miami Dolphins offense will take on the struggling New York Jets offensive unit in the Week 12 "Black Friday" game. It'll be a matchup of two groups with historically different success rates this season.

Head coach Mike McDaniel's offense put up 70 points in their 50-point victory against the Denver Broncos in Week 3. At the time, the 70-spot was 16 more points than the Jets had scored in their previous five games dating back to the 2022 regular season. It was also the same amount of scoring that the Chicago Bears had done in their previous five tilts.

The AFC East-leading Dolphins offense has cooled off slightly since their eruption against the Broncos and averaging 43.3 points over the first three weeks, posting 25.0 points per contest. Miami still leads the NFL in nearly every notable offensive category, including passing yards per game (291.0), total yards per game (434.0) and points per tilt (30.5).

Primarily under the leadership of quarterback Zach Wilson, New York ranks second to last in the league in total yards (2,703), third to last in passing yards (1,705) and third to last in points scored (150).

Wilson has six touchdown passes against seven interceptions this fall, while running back Breece Hall has scored a pair of rushing touchdowns and fullback Nick Bawden has one on the ground as well. Hall and wide receiver Garrett Wilson both have a pair of receiving touchdowns from the former BYU signal-caller, while wideout Allen Lazard and tight end C.J. Uzomah have a score through the air too.

The Dolphins and Jets will play twice in the next four weeks, as they'll square off in Week 15 on Dec. 17 as well.
