As far as shell-shocking results go, the Seattle Seahawks' 37-3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens has to be up there with the most eye-opening.
A brutal second-half display against the Ravens defense kept the Seahawks scoreless while Baltimore piled on 20 points more points of its own after Seattle was down 17-3 at halftime.
Receiver Tyler Lockett was "lost for words" after the game and now DK Metcalf has revealed that the postmortem of the team's loss made players fully aware of what transpired at M&T Bank Stadium.
“We got to face the truth of what really happened, and what really happened was we got beat," Metcalf said. "They outplayed us, out-physicaled us, they just flat out beat us, facing that truth that you’re an NFL team, when you come in here and hearing that. Nobody wants to hear that you just flat out got beat by another team, but that’s the reality of what happened on Sunday. The mood right now is coming in here, fixing our mistakes and just getting back to square one and getting back to the basics of football.”
After such a disappointing loss, the feeling can linger longer than it should, and carry over into the next game. This could be a motivational tool for the Seahawks when they take on the Washington Commanders at Lumen Field on Sunday.
Given what is at stake for the Seahawks in terms of the division (currently tied with the San Francisco 49ers at 5-3) as well as the overall NFC picture, there is no time to dwell on what happened against Baltimore.
But is Metcalf worried about it carrying over against the Commanders this weekend?
“No, because even after a win we have to do the same thing," Metcalf said. "We celebrate on Monday, Tuesday it starts to simmer down, then Wednesday focus on the next team. A win and a loss is pretty much the exact same in the league, can’t dwell on it too much, but also you have to look for it.”
Seattle gets the chance for redemption when Sam Howell and Co. come to Lumen Field on Sunday. The Seahawks will have their first chance to prove that the hard truths of Week 9's loss are behind them.
