Do Dolphins land steal of the draft in latest mock?

The Dolphins aren't scheduled to make their first selection in the 2024 NFL Draft until pick No. 21, but CBS Sports' Ryan Wilson believes they could still land the steal of the draft.

In Wilson's latest mock draft, he has Miami landing Georgia tight end Brock Bowers with its first-round pick.

"I'm as shocked as you that Brock Bowers was still available here," Wilson writes. "It's hard to envision how a top 10 player (he's actually No. 6 on our big board) lasts this long. I get it."

Bowers is one of the best tight end prospects in recent memory after posting 175 catches for 2,538 yards and 26 touchdowns in three seasons at Georgia. The 6-foot-4, 240-pound tight end has also already drawn comparisons to future Hall of Famer Rob Gronkowski.

So why do several "experts" like Wilson believe he could fall on night one?

"In the last 20 years, 19 tight ends have gone in the first round. Five of those were selected in the top 10 (Eric Ebron, 10th overall in 2014; T.J. Hockenson, 8th overall in 2019; Kellen Winslow II and Vernon Davis, 6th overall in 2004 and 2006; and Kyle Pitts, 4th overall in 2021)," Wilson added. "The other 14 were drafted between No. 19 and No. 32."

Tight ends seem to be valued less than a lot of other positions, and it doesn't help that several of the highly drafted tight ends haven't lived up to expectations.

If Bowers takes a similar fall, the Dolphins could turn out to be the biggest benefactors in the draft.

Head coach Mike McDaniel hasn't typically used a tight end as a primary piece to the offense with wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle getting most of the opportunities. However, adding a player of Bowers' caliber would force him to do so.

In 2022, Miami's tight ends combined for just 41 catches for 414 yards and zero touchdowns. That would immediately change if Bowers somehow fell to the Dolphins on April 25 in Detroit.
