Dolphins DC's quote on Bills QB Josh Allen should raise eyebrows

Ahead of their matchup with the Bills, Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Vic Fangio compared Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen to a Pro Football Hall of Famer.

"This guy is the new John Elway on steroids," Fangio told the media Thursday, per NFL Media's Cameron Wolfe. "And I don't mean he's taking steroids."

It's an apt comparison, minus the steroid part. Elway, who starred for the Denver Broncos from 1983-98, was an athletic QB with a rocket arm like Allen. He also had a penchant for jaw-dropping plays.

Allen is second in the league in interceptions thrown (16); however, he's a reason the Bills (10-6) could clinch a playoff spot in Week 18. Through 16 games, he's tied for seventh in the league in passing TDs (27), seventh in passing yards (3,947) and third in QBR (68.2). As of Thursday, FanDuel gives him the fourth-best MVP odds (+3000).

Per StatMuse, the two-time Pro Bowler is 3-1 in his last four games against the Dolphins (11-5), completing 66.5 percent of his passes for 13 TDs, two interceptions and an above-average 112.5 passer rating. Despite his recent success, he remains humble and focused.

"I think every game is different, each game has its specific flow," Allen said Wednesday, via Katherine Fitzgerald of the Buffalo News. "I've played well against them in the past, but it doesn't mean I'm gonna play well against them this week unless I prepare well and work hard in practice and get on the same page as receivers."

Regardless, don't be surprised if Allen helps the Bills capture their fourth straight AFC East title Sunday. As of Thursday, FanDuel lists Buffalo as a three-point favorite in its road game.
