Dolphins trade former first-round WR DeVante Parker to Patriots

The Miami Dolphins traded wide receiver DeVante Parker to the New England Patriots on Saturday for a swap of mid-round picks.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Patriots will get Parker and a fifth-round pick in the upcoming 2022 NFL Draft, while the Dolphins will receive a third-round pick next year.

Parker, 29, was rumored to be on the trading block after Miami added Tyreek Hill in a blockbuster trade with the Kansas City Chiefs and former Dallas Cowboys receiver Cedrick Wilson Jr. in free agency. With 2021 top 10 pick Jaylen Waddle also on the roster, Parker's $8.74 million and $9 million salary cap hits in the next two seasons made him tough to keep buried on the depth chart.

In New England, Parker joins a wide receiving corps that also includes Jakobi Meyers, Nelson Agholor, and N'Keal Harry.

Parker was a first-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, but struggled to find consistent production until he broke out with 1,202 yards and nine touchdowns in 2019. His numbers tailed off again, though, and he finished the 2021 season with 515 yards and two touchdowns while dealing with a hamstring injury that kept him out for seven games.

The Philadelphia Eagles were reportedly among the other teams interested in a trade to acquire Parker.
