Donovan McNabb: 'I feel bad for DeMarco Murray'
At this point in the NFL season, it seems as though everyone and their dog has given their two cents about the DeMarco Murray debacle in Philadelphia. You can now add former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb to that list.
During Sunday night's game in Philadelphia against the Arizona Cardinals, Murray didn't touch the playing field until the third quarter, spending the rest of the game rocking a beanie on the sidelines. The lack of play time apparently didn't sit well with McNabb, who chose to voice his displeasure — where else? — on Twitter.
There are critics who are bagging on the former Eagles' quarterback for throwing shade at his former team. There is also the argument that this tweet comes just after McNabb was released from an 18-day jail stint and that, as Rob Tornoe of Philly.com said, "he probably isn't the ideal person to pass judgment on anyone."
But it's hard to deny that McNabb has a point. For Murray to go from leading the league in rushing in 2014 to totaling two carries for three yards in a Sunday night game is quite the fall down the totem poll. Sure, coach Chip Kelly keeps insisting that the Eagles are working a rotation of backs, as he reportedly told the "WIP Morning Show":
“We’re just rotating our backs like we have for the last couple of games,” Kelly told Angelo Cataldi. “That was the rotation that we worked on during the week at practice.… We got Ryan [Mathews] back after missing part of the Miami game, and then the Tampa Bay and Detroit game. That’s the way we practiced during the week.”
Murray — and the five-year deal he signed this past offseason — doesn't seem to even be making the rotation.
On the season, Murray, who led the NFL in rushing with 1,845 yards, 13 touchdowns and averaged 115.3 yards on the ground per game in addition to netting over 2,261 total yards from scrimmage, has just 606 yards rushing and 904 total yards from scrimmage through 14 games in his first year in Philadelphia.
