Drew Rosenhaus 'wouldn't be surprised' if Rob Gronkowski returns to Buccaneers

Shortly after future Hall of Fame tight end Rob Gronkowski announced his second retirement back on June 21, agent Drew Rosenhaus generated buzz with a text that made it clear he believed, at the time, Gronkowski could ultimately return to play at least one more season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers if quarterback Tom Brady requested the services of his "best friend" for a "last dance."

In fairness to Gronkowski, however, he has since publicly insisted that he "wouldn’t go back to football" regardless of Brady's wishes and is "enjoying trying to find what I really, really want to do next."

Rosenhaus isn't so sure, or at least that's what he suggested via comments he made ahead of the Labor Day holiday weekend.

Per Matt Audilet of The Spun, Rosenhaus again addressed Gronkowski's future during an interview with NFL insider Rob Maaddi.

"It looks like Rob is having a great time without football. It looks like he's really enjoying himself," Rosenhaus remarked. "He says he's retired for good, but I always stick with my opinion. As I said before, I wouldn't be surprised if circumstances played out where Tom Brady and the Buccaneers need Rob. If later in the season Rob decides to come back for his guy Tom Brady and maybe finish the year and help the team win another championship.

"That would not surprise me. I'm not predicting that, and I'm not saying that's coming from Rob... That's just my opinion. I've represented him for more than a decade and that's just my gut feeling."

For Gronkowski to potentially catch passes thrown by Brady in meaningful games this fall, the 45-year-old signal-caller must first make his regular-season debut in the Week 1 contest at the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 11. There are multiple reasons many within the NFL community are questioning Brady's dedication to the cause following an offseason unlike any he's ever before experienced.
