Eagles' Carson Wentz touches upon death of George Floyd

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz became the latest sports figure to address the killing of George Floyd, an African-American man who died while in police custody on May 25.

Wentz tweeted a lengthy essay to share his feelings:

"Being from North Dakota, I've spent a large part of my life surrounded by people of similar color, so I've never gonna act like I know what the black community goes through or even has gone through already. I'll never know the feeling of having to worry about my kids going outside because of their color. However, I do know that we are all equal at the foot of the cross and Jesus taught us to value others' lives like they were our own -- regardless of skin color."

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, reigning UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones, former NBA player Stephen Jackson, and Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr also offered responses to Floyd's death via social media.

The story of Floyd's passing sparked protests across multiple American cities during the midweek.
