The Philadelphia Eagles are continuing to “churn the bottom of the roster,” as NFL teams are fond of saying, with a pair of end-of-the-week moves that have name value … if not roster value,

The Eagles are saying goodbye to a familiar face in running back Trey Sermon, who is being cut from the team’s injured reserve list.

Additionally, via a different path, newcomer Rashaan Evans is being released from the practice squad.

Sermon has been with the Eagles for a year having joined the team via a waiver claim a year ago. In 2022, and ran the ball twice for 19 yards in his two regular season appearances.

Sermon was waived with an injury designation in August but is now free to sign with any other team.

Evans is a different case altogether. He signed with the Eagles just this week … with the concept being that he might be able to quickly step up into a role to fill in for the injured linebacker Nakobe Dean.

But that did not happen during this admittedly short week for the 2-0 Eagles and for the former 2018 Tennessee Titans first-round pick … so Evans has asked for and has been granted his release in order to explore signing options with other NFL clubs.
