Eagles disappoint with dates for Kelly Green jerseys

Cue the Rocky theme. They're back!

The Philadelphia Eagles' Kelly Green jerseys, the jerseys of Randall Cunningham and Reggie White, have made their triumphant return. Now that the big reveal has taken place, the only remaining decision left was when to wear them. The Eagles had several options.

Their home opener is a Thursday night game in Week 2 against Minnesota. Coming out of the tunnel rocking those beauties would be a heck of a way to set the tone for the season. The Eagles could also have worn them for their Week 13 NFC Championship Game rematch against San Francisco or even in Week 17 versus Arizona, a former division rival.

The two choices that would seem to be layups, however, were Week 9 against Dallas, and best of all, Week 16. That's Christmas Day against the New York Giants. When you add the white 1980s throwbacks that the Giants have reintroduced, it's a no-brainer. Haason Reddick would be coming for Daniel Jones like he's Clyde Simmons going after Phil Simms.

Anyway, enough speculation.  Drumroll, please...

What?!?!

After all the hype, all the teasing, all the fans tailgating at four in the morning waiting for the Eagles Pro Shop to open, this is how they're rewarded? By wasting the Kelly Greens on Miami and Buffalo, the only two home opponents the Eagles have no rivalry history with?

It's true that Eagles fans should just be happy the Kelly Greens are back at all, but this still seems like a letdown, especially considering the dates that other teams have chosen for their throwbacks.

New England is wearing its red jerseys and "Pat the Patriot" helmets in Week 2 against Miami, a division rival. Likewise, the Jets are showcasing their white "New York Sack Exchange" throwbacks in Week 1 against longtime rival Buffalo.

Minnesota chose Week 1 against Tampa Bay, a former division rival, to wear its old-school "Purple People Eaters" unis, and the Buccaneers are bringing back their Creamsicle jerseys in Week 6 against former division rival Detroit.

Instead of taking this route, the Eagles lumped themselves in with Tennessee, which chose to burn its Houston Oilers throwbacks on a meaningless Week 8 game against Atlanta.

Bummer.
