Eagles four-time Pro Bowler claps back at NFL exec on social media

Philadelphia Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson is widely considered one of the best in the business at his position. The majority of front-office personnel across the league would seemingly agree. Johnson was recently voted the fourth-best tackle in football according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, who polled a number of execs, scouts and coaches.

However, at least one executive feels the praise surrounding Johnson is unwarranted.

"But one NFC exec believes Johnson is overhyped and plays in a run-pass-option offense that helps him limit sacks," wrote Fowler. The NFC exec added Johnson "gets a lot of credit for being noisy and playing on a good team."

Johnson evidently caught wind of the comments, appearing to clap back at the exec for his comments on social media.

Johnson, 33, was a first-round pick out of Oklahoma in 2013. Since entering the league, he's eclipsed an 81.0 overall Pro Football Focus grade in six of his 10 seasons. According to PFF, Johnson has not allowed a sack since 2020.

Fellow Eagles offensive tackle Jordan Mailata also made the cut in the ESPN poll, ranking one spot behind Johnson as the No. 5 tackle in the NFL. Mailata appeared to respond to the list on Instagram by responding to a post from Johnson telling his Eagles teammate "Let’s run this sh*t back."

The Eagles finished the 2022 regular season with the best record in the NFC at 14-3. They would go on to be topped by the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl by the score of 38-35. Philadelphia last hoisted the Lombardi Trophy six seasons ago when they defeated the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII.
