Eagles GM Howie Roseman speaks highly of Jalen Hurts heading into offseason

The Philadelphia Eagles are starting their offseason a little sooner than they would have hoped. But their GM is still quite happy with how their starting quarterback played this season.

Executive vice president and general manager Howie Roseman was asked about Jalen Hurts in a press conference Wednesday and had nothing but praise for the second-year signal-caller.

"When we talk about Jalen and the growth he had -- really, first-year starter, second-year player, leading this team to the playoffs. Mentally, impressed with his work ethic and his leadership," Roseman said, "Last time we talked, which was during camp, we said we wanted to see him take the bull by the horns. And he certainly did that."

Hurts came under some criticism after Philly got thumped by the Buccaneers 31-15 in last weekend's wild-carrd round. (Although to be fair, the entire Eagles roster didn't play well.)  Despite the loss, the first-year starter maintained after the game that the team is headed in the right direction and that the early exit from the postseason "doesn't define" him or the team he plans to keep leading.

Hurts finished his regular-season campaign having completed 61.3% of his passes for 3,144 yards with16 touchdowns and nine interceptions, along with rushing for 784 yards and 10 TDs on the ground. ESPN ranked him 16th overall in their end-of-season QB rating while adding the Eagles "need some competition in the QB room" next season.

Whether or not the Eagles decide to bring in said competition, it looks like Hurts is in their immediate plans for the time being.
