Eagles GM Howie Roseman wants Jalen Hurts to grab starting job and 'run with it'

The Philadelphia Eagles fully intend to go all-in with Jalen Hurts in 2021 after not selecting one of the top quarterbacks in this year's draft.

The upcoming season will be critical for Hurts to prove himself as Philly's quarterback of the future. He only started four games in 2020 and didn't get the chance to show what he can really do.

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said during a recent interview on SiriusXM NFL Radio that he hopes Hurts makes the most of his opportunity as a starter.

"Certainly you're judging him off of four NFL starts, in a tough situation with all the injuries that we had," Roseman said. "We want to see him grab the job and kind of run with it, and see what you do over a period of time."

Head coach Nick Sirianni said last month that it was too early to declare a starter, but with Joe Flacco the only other quarterback on the Eagles' roster, it's likely that Hurts will be first on the depth chart.

Roseman's comments also come after Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie reportedly told Philadelphia's decision-makers in March to prioritize making Hurts successful in 2021 instead of creating a quarterback competition.

If the 22-year-old doesn't prove himself in 2021, the Eagles could opt to select another quarterback in the 2022 draft. USC's Kedon Slovis, Oklahoma's Spencer Rattler and North Carolina's Sam Howell are expected to be the best passers available next offseason.
