The Philadelphia Eagles had a hard landing
The Philadelphia Eagles suffered a heartbreaking loss in the Super Bowl. The team blew a double-digit halftime lead as the Kansas City Chiefs rallied to win 38-35.
While the Chiefs seemed less bothered about the field condition than the Eagles, it’s easier to stomach a few slips when you bring home the Lombardi Trophy. Meanwhile, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman spoke about the field conditions Thursday.
Some players complained about slipping during the Super Bowl, including Eagles defensive end Haason Reddick. Quarterback Jalen Hurts changed cleats during the middle of the game Sunday to try to keep from slipping, but there wasn’t much chatter about the turf at halftime.
After the game, many Eagles fans felt like the turf cost them the game because a quarterback with a high-ankle sprain could overcome the turf in a way their defensive line couldn’t.
Eagles general manager responds to grass issue
Roseman has since been asked by reporters about the grass situation during the Super Bowl. The media wanted to know how the field conditions affected the Eagles’ elite pass rush. According to Mike Garafolo with the NFL Network, Roseman said, “Both teams played on the same field.”
Roseman is right. The Chiefs had a good pass rush themselves during the 2022 season. They had the second-most sacks behind the Eagles during the regular season. The Chiefs recorded two sacks in the Super Bowl, while Eagles registered none. The Chiefs offensive line got the job done in Glendale, and that’s a big reason why they won the Super Bowl. Roseman understands that.
