The Arizona Cardinals released tight end Zach Ertz upon request Thursday afternoon and Philadelphia Eagles star tackle Lane Johnson wasted no time recruiting the three-time Pro Bowler back to Philly.
Johnson took to X/Twitter where he simply tweeted the "eyes" emoji and tagged Ertz's official Twitter. It
It didn't take long for Johnson's tweet to blow up as thousands of Eagles fans joined in on the recruiting.
Ertz's mutual release from the Cardinals couldn't come at a more perfect time, for one; he had expressed his interest in playing for a contender and the Eagles are well on their way to the NFL Playoffs.
And two; the Eagles could use a tight end with Dallas Goedert (forearm) and Grant Calcaterra (ankle) dealing injuries.
Sure Ertz isn't the Pro Bowl and Super Bowl-saving tight end that he used to be, however, he could come right in and make an impact for his former team.
It also helps that Ertz is familiar with Nick Sirianni's system, having played for Sirianni before the Eagles traded him to Arizona in 2021.
Ertz has been on Injured Reserve with a quad injury and hasn't played since Week 7, though he is eligible to return from IR as early as this week.
Before he was injured, Ertz had 27 catches for 187 yards and one touchdown through seven games.
He is projected to clear waivers and become a free agent, which means a better bargain if the Eagles can hold out for 24 hours and then snag him.
