Eagles make big addition where they need it most

The Philadelphia Eagles bolstered their defense by signing Ndamukong Suh on Thursday.

Suh, 35, signed a one-year deal with the franchise. He played the past three seasons in Tampa Bay and started all 17 games last year. He finished the season with six sacks. In the team's 30-27 divisional round loss to the Los Angeles Rams, Suh had six tackles, a forced fumble and half a sack.

The Eagles defensive front took a hit when rookie defensive tackle Jordan Davis (ankle) went down in Week 8. The team placed him on injured reserve Nov. 2. Suh's signing will shore up that unit along with the team's free agent addition from Wednesday, defensive tackle Linval Joseph.

Per Football Outsiders, the Eagles rank 28th in defensive rush DVOA (4.9 percent). Data from NFL Next Gen Stats show that on Monday night, Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson Jr. did the majority of his damage up the middle. Of his 26 carries, 16 came from between the tackles, and he gained 62 yards and scored one touchdown.

Philadelphia (8-1) lost for the first time this season, 32-21.

Suh began his career in Detroit, where he recorded 36 sacks in five seasons with the Lions. He then spent three seasons in Miami before spending one season with the Los Angeles Rams in 2018.

Suh has 70.5 sacks, nine fumble recoveries, an interception and three touchdowns in 12 seasons and has made five Pro Bowls and three All-Pro teams. He won a Super Bowl as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Tom Brady's first season with the team.
