Philadelphia Eagles' new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore addressed the media last week for the first time since he was hired back in January.

The former Los Angeles Chargers and Dallas Cowboys OC spoke on many topics, including his first impressions of quarterback Jalen Hurts.

"Really enjoyed [QB] Jalen’s [Hurts] process," Moore said." So far really it’s focused on how he processes the game and just kind of the classroom aspect of it, and we’re beginning the field process of really getting out on the field and being able to do this thing.

"I’ve really enjoyed our conversations. I think he’s a really smart player. He has a great feel for this game. The more conversation we have, the more we get to make these adjustments and build off of this thing. Jalen’s [Hurts] one of the premier quarterbacks in this league for a reason. You see it on film previously, but obviously getting on the field now, you’re certainly seeing it."

Moore's Longtime Sidekick will Help get Hurts and Eagles Back on Track

Following a disastrous 2023 season, it will be Moore's job to get Hurts and the rest of the Eagles offense back on the Super Bowl contender track this fall. However, Moore won't be alone in that process since he will have his longtime sidekick and quarterbacks coach, Doug Nussmeier, to help him complete the task.

"I think any time the quarterback room — you always have to be conscious of how many voices are with the quarterback," Moore said. "Fortunately, I’ve been around Doug [Nussmeier] for a number of years, really since he joined our staff in Dallas in 2018. But in 2020 he became the quarterbacks coach. We’ve kind of done this thing together for a number of years now."

Nussmeier spent 2023 coaching Justin Herbert in LA. Before that, he coached Dak Prescott in Dallas. With Nussmeier now focused on Hurts in Philly, Moore will have more time to focus on the details of the Eagles' scheme.

"We kind of complement each other in certainly personalities and the way we coach. We can kind of play off of each other, feed off of each other really, really well," Moore continued. "He does a phenomenal job with the details and the fundamentals just of playing the quarterback position, and he does a great job with that. The more you’re around him, you see him out on the field, the drill work and all the things that he does to tie the pass game together for the quarterback is huge.

"It allows me to kind of stay in the scheme aspect of this thing, to be a little bit more on the philosophical side while still being able to overlap. I think that’s a critical aspect of this thing."

Moore wouldn't get into the details of his offensive scheme, though he plans to mix what has already been implemented and fully "embrace" Hurts' ability to contribute to the run game.
