Eagles players go to bat for Nick Sirianni amid reports he lost the locker room
It appears that Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni won’t be losing his job, after all.
Two days after the Eagles were eliminated from the postseason in a 32-9 defeat at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, several of the players who reportedly didn’t see eye to eye with Sirianni or his assistants stood up for the 42-year-old head coach. Many pundits have been calling for his job.
“He's taken us to the playoffs three consecutive years,” offensive tackle Jordan Mailata told reporters. “He's taken us to the Super Bowl last year. That's got to account for something. He's a hell of a coach.”
“Come on, man; he's the head football coach of this team,” defensive tackle Fletcher Cox added. “Come on, man. There ain't even no f---ing discussion about that, man.”
Sirianni came under fire after the Eales lost five of their last six regular-season games and were subsquently eliminated from the playoffs during Super Wild Card Weekend after reaching the Super Bowl a year ago.
In three seasons with the Eagles, Sirianni has helped lead the team to a 34-17 record with three playoff appearances, a division title and a Super Bowl appearance. His .676 win percentage is the best in franchise history and 14 players have made the Pro Bowl during his tenure.
“I think Nick's a great coach; I really do. I think he's a great head coach. Obviously, nobody was good enough this year. I wasn't, none of the players, none of the coaches were good enough down the stretch. That's the reality of this business," said now-retired center Jason Kelce. "When you're that bad, it's a collective thing. I'll always have faith in Nick Sirianni. I think he does a lot of things structurally and organizationally that I think are really well done.”
