Eagles QB Jalen Hurts questionable vs. Jets with ankle injury

On Wednesday, Philadelphia Eagles starting quarterback Jalen Hurts confidently declared he'd be "ready to go" for Sunday's game at the New York Jets despite the ankle sprain he suffered in last Sunday's loss at the New York Giants.

Hurts may have been overly optimistic at that time.

Per Kevin Patra of the NFL's website, Eagles coach Nick Sirianni told reporters Friday he's embracing a cautious approach regarding his signal-caller.

"We still got time to make that decision. Jalen's questionable," Sirianni explained. "But we still have a little less than 48 hours to let the body heal, see what's going on, even a little bit more. So it's an unknown right now."

Hurts played through visible discomfort late in the loss to Big Blue and was limited throughout midweek practices. Sirianni insisted he "won't put a guy out there that isn't ready to go" versus the Jets.

Backup Gardner Minshew will start if Hurts can't play but won't be able to make up for what Philadelphia would lose in its rushing attack against Gang Green. According to ESPN stats, Hurts leads the Eagles with 695 rushing yards, eight touchdowns on the ground, 122 rushing attempts and 5.7 yards per carry.

Reid Sinnett will likely serve as Philadelphia's QB2 if Minshew starts at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.
