Eagles QB Jalen Hurts throws 50th TD pass, joins exclusive list
Philadelphia Eagles star quarterback Jalen Hurts hit an impressive milestone on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams, joining an exclusive group of QBs.
Playing in the 50th game of his career, Hurts tossed touchdown pass No. 50 as a pro on the Eagles opening drive. Hurts is only the fourth quarterback in NFL history to record 50 touchdown passes and 25 rushing scores through their first 50 games; Daunte Culpepper, Cam Newton and Josh Allen are the others.
Entering the day with 29 rushing touchdowns, Hurts long surpassed the 25-TD mark on the ground. Doing so in Week 15 of 2022 (44th career game), thanks to a three-score performance against the Chicago Bears.
Hurts put together an MVP-caliber season in 2022 and led the Eagles to Super Bowl LVII. However, despite the Eagles' 4-0 start to the 2023 campaign, some would argue Hurts is off to a slow start. If that's the case, Hurts might be showing signs of warming up.
Hurts reached the 50-touchdown mark in style on Sunday, marching the Eagles down the field on a methodical, 12-play, 75-yard touchdown drive. The Eagles QB accounted for 57 passing yards (6-of-7) and 12 rushing yards, capping things off with a six-yard strike to tight end Dallas Goedert in the back of the endzone.
Furthermore, Hurts is coming off easily his best performance of the young season. In Week 4 against the Washington Commanders, Hurts put the Eagles on his back, willing them to a 34-31 overtime win over their division rival. Meanwhile, he finally exploded on the stat sheet, surpassing 300 yards passing (319) and throwing for multiple touchdowns (two) for the first time this year.
