A day after the news broke of safety CJ Gardner-Johnson departing the Philadelphia Eagles for Detroit, the Eagles made a move on Monday the 20th and agreed to a deal with former Buccaneers and Saints safety Justin Evans, per Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.

Evans appeared in 15 games in 2022 for the New Orleans Saints, starting four of them and totaling 29 combined tackles, 2 pass deflections, and a forced fumble. Evans also spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2017 and 2018, starting a total of 21 games in that span.

The Eagles roster has looked famished at the safety position with the departures of their two starters Marcus Epps and Chauncey Gardner-Johnson this offseason. While Evans does not seem likely to add value to the secondary as a starter, he will be a nice veteran depth piece for a shallow Philadelphia safety group.
