Eagles survive scare against Texans to move to 8-0 for first time in franchise history

It wasn't pretty, but a win is a win.

The Philadelphia Eagles improved to 8-0 for the first time in franchise history on Thursday night, escaping with a 29-17 win over the lowly Houston Texans, who fall to 1-6-1.

After playing to a 14-14 tie at halftime, the Eagles took over in the second half, forcing two Texans turnovers while outscoring Houston 15-3 to remain the league's only unbeaten team.

Still tied 14-14 in the third quarter, C.J. Gardner-Johnson's fifth interception of the season set up the Eagles at the Houston 17-yard line. Two plays later, quarterback Jalen Hurts connected with wideout A.J. Brown for a 17-yard touchdown to give the Eagles a 21-14 lead midway through the third quarter.

Following a 30-yard-field goal by Texans kicker Ka'imi Fairbairn, cutting the Eagles' lead to 21-17, Hurts and the offense responded.

Hurts orchestrated a 10-play, 75-yard drive, capped off by a four-yard touchdown pass to tight end Dallas Goedert.

The Eagles defense halted the Texans' ensuing drive after an interception by cornerback James Bradberry, sealing the victory for Philly with just over two minutes left in the fourth quarter.

Hurts finished 21-of-27 for 243 yards with two touchdowns, no interceptions and a fumble lost.

Goedert was Hurts' favorite receiver on Thursday night, targeting him nine times for eight catches, 100 yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, on the ground, Miles Sanders led the way for the Birds, finishing with 93 yards and a touchdown off 17 carries.

Javon Hargrave led the way for the Eagles defense, tallying seven tackles while sacking Texans quarterback Davis Mills three times.

The Eagles will look to improve to 9-0 next week when they host the Washington Commanders on "Monday Night Football."
