The Philadelphia Eagles moved on from veteran defensive end Derek Barnett last week.
And it didn't take that long for the former first-round pick to find a new home.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Barnett was claimed off the waivers by the Houston Texans on Monday afternoon.
Barnett, 27, was initially drafted 14th overall by the Eagles in 2017.
He missed most of the 2022 season due to a torn ACL that he sustained in Week 1 against the Detroit Lions.
When he returned from his injury, Barnett struggled to compete with such a competitive Eagles defensive line room. Because of that, his production had significantly decreased this year, having logged just three tackles through eight appearances so far.
Over seven seasons with the Eagles, Barnett racked up 21.5 sacks, 76 quarterback hits and 37 tackles for loss.
"The Eagles organization would like to thank Derek for his contributions to this team over the last seven seasons," the team said in a statement following his release from the team. "As a rookie, Derek made one of the most memorable plays in our Super Bowl victory over the Patriots. He has been a great teammate who always played with high energy and effort. We wish Derek nothing but the best."
Now, Barnett will join a 6-5 Texans team that's still in the hunt for a playoff spot and hopefully, he'll see a lot more action than the 20% of snaps he was getting with the Birds this season.
