Ex-HC claims Bills should fire Sean McDermott and hire Bill Belichick

Would replacing head coach Sean McDermott with Bill Belichick end the Buffalo Bills' playoff woes?

"I'm not saying it's gonna happen," former NFL head coach and ESPN analyst Rex Ryan said Monday on "Get Up." "Believe me, I'm not just being reckless when I'm saying it. If you're going to move on from [McDermott], make no mistake, it's for one guy. It's for Bill Belichick."

Buffalo hiring the ex-Patriots HC is a pipe dream. While several teams are reportedly interested in the six-time Super Bowl champion, Tim Graham of The Athletic recently reported there's "zero chance" the Bills will fire McDermott, who signed a contract extension last June.

However, it's fair to wonder if he can help Buffalo capture its first Super Bowl title. Under McDermott, the Bills are 5-6 in the playoffs and have suffered three consecutive losses in the divisional round.

This past Sunday's divisional-round loss against the Kansas City Chiefs was heartbreaking. Down 27-24 with 1:47 remaining in the fourth quarter, kicker Tyler Bass missed a 44-yard field-goal attempt that would've tied the game.

"When you put so much time into this," McDermott said following the loss, via Graham. "put so much time into a season, let alone this game and the preparation for it, and to not perform the way I'd hoped we would've, it's extremely disappointing and frustrating."

The Bills have the talent to win a championship. Quarterback Josh Allen finished third in the NFL in QBR (69.4), and they were fourth in points allowed (18.7). Still, they struggle to win close games in the postseason, and their Super Bowl window is closing.

The front office might need to make a head-coaching change if the team keeps faltering in big games.
