Falcons would reportedly accept second-round pick for Julio Jones
The Atlanta Falcons were initially looking for a first-round pick in exchange for All-Pro wide receiver Julio Jones. Now the price tag doesn't appear to be as high.
According to NBC Sports' Peter King, the Falcons would reportedly accept a "hard" 2022 second-round pick for Jones. Atlanta is willing to acquire a second-round pick with no conditions around Jones' playing time in a deal that frees the Falcons from paying any of his remaining salary, King adds.
Jones has three years remaining on his contract and any team that acquires him will owe him $38.3 million.
Several teams have been linked as potential suitors for the 32-year-old, including the New England Patriots, San Francisco 49ers, Tennessee Titans, Los Angeles Rams, Baltimore Ravens and Seattle Seahawks.
Here's where those teams reportedly stand:
- The Patriots have had internal discussions about a trade for Jones.
- The Titans are making a "consistent push" for Jones but won't overpay.
- The 49ers are discussed most often as a trade fit for Jones in league circles.
- The Rams are interested in Jones.
- The Ravens are "willing to get involved if the price is right."
- The Seahawks have had discussions about a possible trade with Atlanta and Russell Wilson has reached out to Jones to discuss the possibility of playing together.
Jones reportedly requested a trade earlier this offseason and essentially confirmed his departure from Atlanta by telling FS1's Shannon Sharpe, "I'm out of there."
Trading Jones after June 1 will free up $15.3 million in cap space for the Falcons, who desperately need it to sign their 2021 draft picks.
