The Seattle Seahawks did all they could to slay the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium but fell short 41-35. While the loss will be tough to take as the Seahawks produced perhaps their best game of football for the year, in the end, it's a game they lost.
For all the good Seattle was able to do, it is now a .500 team at 6-6 and is on a three-game losing streak with the San Francisco 49ers up next.
But for all the doom and gloom after getting so close to knocking off the Cowboys in their building, receiver DK Metcalf, who himself had his best game of the year, there is one positive the team can take from the loss.
“We've finally started executing,” Metcalf said. “You know, moving the ball down the field and scoring in the red zone. I think that's one positive takeaway we can take from this game.”
The Seahawks started with a bang as Metcalf took a quick slant route 73 yards to the house, and Seattle's next possessions went as follows: missed field goal (57-yard drive), touchdown (22-yard drive), touchdown (36-yard drive), touchdown (60-yard drive), interception, touchdown (70-yard drive) before three straight fourth down failures ended the game.
Metcalf is right, Seattle executed at a high level.
However, the harsh reality is that now at 6-6 and on a three-game losing streak, their season is in danger of slipping away.
But despite that, Metcalf is confident his team can rally.
“We've played games where off the offense has done well and the defense hasn't or the defense has had our back and the offense hasn't done so well so we just have to play a complete game as a team to where know we're hitting on all phases," Metcalf said. "The offense is executing defense is getting stops and special teams is running, hitting, so once we do that I think we're going to be a great team.”
The Seahawks get perhaps the toughest assignment in football next up - the 49ers in Santa Clara after they laid a 42-19 beatdown on the Philadelphia Eagles.
If Seattle is to steady the ship and snap its losing streak, then all three phases need to play at a high level and if they can bring that same mindset to Santa Clara that they did to AT&T Stadium, the Seahawks have the weapons to cause an upset.
It's all about execution.
