Indianapolis Colts coach Frank Reich Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Frank Reich had a message for Ron Rivera after the Washington Commanders acquired Carson Wentz in a trade with them two weeks ago.

Reich coached Wentz for two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and then again last season on the Colts. Indy went 9-8, losing to the Jags in Week 18 to blow a playoff spot.

Indianapolis decided to move on from Wentz after the season and jettisoned him to Washington.

ESPN’s John Keim wrote an in-depth story about Washington’s acquisition of Wentz that was published on Saturday. In the story, Keim quoted Commanders coach Ron Rivera. Rivera shared that Reich reached out to the Washington coach after the trade. Reich wanted to volunteer praise for Wentz.

“You’re gonna love [Wentz],” Reich apparently told Rivera. “He’s been a good person first and foremost, I want you to know that.'”

According to Keim, Rivera said that he was going to reach out to Reich, but Reich beat him to it to congratulate him on the Wentz acquisition.

What’s significant about that? There was an unflattering report about Wentz recently. If Reich had issues with the quarterback, maybe he wouldn’t have praised him so much to Rivera, not unless Reich was being extra devious.
