Colts All-Pro RB Jonathan Taylor 'definitely sad' QB Carson Wentz is gone

As had been widely expected since at least January, the Indianapolis Colts decided to part ways with quarterback Carson Wentz following just a single lackluster season together. The disappointing campaign ended with back-to-back defeats that kept the organization out of the playoffs.

Shortly after the Colts agreed to trade Wentz to the Washington Commanders before the start of the new league year, a report surfaced claiming that some within Indianapolis "grew frustrated" with different aspects of the signal-caller's personality and play even "before the season began."

As noted by ESPN stats, Colts All-Pro running back Jonathan Taylor finished the 2021 campaign leading the entire NFL with 1,811 rushing yards, 18 touchdowns on the ground and 332 carries. Unlike some reportedly within the franchise, the 23-year-old ball-carrier recently spoke highly of his former teammate.

"I’m definitely sad to see Carson go," Taylor explained, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. "He was amazing in the locker room and on the field as well. You look at some of the plays he made on the field, but off the field he was an amazing guy always. He made sure to get in contact with everyone on the team."

Taylor added individuals on the Indianapolis roster "fully trust" general manager Chris Ballard to find the right long-term answer for the team regarding the sport's most important position. Meanwhile, the Colts continue to be linked with Baker Mayfield now that the Cleveland Browns have replaced the first-overall pick of the 2018 draft with three-time Pro Bowl selection Deshaun Watson.

However, Indianapolis may be looking elsewhere:
