Giants coach Joe Judge defends team in lengthy post-game tirade
The New York Giants may have a 4-12 record and look as disjointed as a football team can be, but that hasn't stopped Joe Judge from defending them. And himself.
The head coach went on a passionate vent session with the media following an embarrassing 29-3 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday, defending the Giants organization and preaching that the culture in the locker room is as good as ever.
"This ain't a team that is having fistfights on the sidelines. This ain't some clown show organization or something else," Judge said, via ESPN, after being asked why Giants fans should still have faith in the team in light of its many woes.
The second-year head coach went on to say that former Giants players have contacted him to say they wish they were still playing for New York.
The Giants have long been eliminated from playoff contention and have lost five straight games, firmly placing Judge's job in jeopardy. Judge knows fans are likely to jeer him next weekend when the Giants host the Washington Football Team, although he insists he won't let that bother him.
"Every fan has a right to boo my ass out of the stadium," he said. "Got that? That don't bother me. I don't want it. I don't think anyone wants to get booed. But the reality of it, that's all right."
Whether or not Judge's fate with the team has already been decided, he --at least on the surface -- continues to insist the Giants have the right foundation to turn things around.
"I know we have the right temperament. I know we have the right culture in terms of teaching players, which is why I don't come up here and try to assassinate some player because I think it's going to save my ass," Judge said. "Because behind closed doors, we shut those doors, I can tell every player to a man, look them in the eye, tell them exactly what they screwed up on and exactly how it's got to get fixed. I can tell them to hold them as accountable as can be. Because I'm not going to sit up here, like some other cowards behind a microphone, and put the players on blast. That is it. I signed up to be the head coach here."
