Giants center Billy Price away from team after wife's miscarriage

The 4-11 New York Giants will likely be without starting center Billy Price for Sunday's largely meaningless matchup at the 5-10 Chicago Bears for reasons much bigger than football.

As Jordan Raanan explained for ESPN, Price took to Instagram on Thursday to confirm that his wife, Taylor, tragically suffered a miscarriage just 15 weeks into her pregnancy.

Per Raanan, the couple was expecting their first child next June:

"We fully support Billy, fully support Billy as an organization, him and his wife as just individuals and their family and what they're going through right now," head coach Joe Judge said of Price on Friday. "We left the door open to Billy in a lot of ways in terms of whatever he needs from us. When I talked to him earlier in the week, I let him know, 'Hey, listen, if you've got to come in here and let this be a distraction, if you want to stay engaged with the game plan, if you want to come out and practice and blow off some steam and hit the weight room, whatever you've got to do.'"

Judge added that he wasn't ruling Price fully out for Sunday's game, but it's assumed either Matt Skura or Wes Martin will start at center in Chicago. A Giants team with nothing on the line other than pride finishes the campaign with a home game against the Washington Football Team on Jan. 9, and Price's status for that contest is understandably up in the air ahead of the weekend.
