Once a franchise is tied to the emergence of an all-time superstar, that franchise and its fans are forever in search of "the next.''

The New York Giants, holding pick No. 3 in the upcoming NFL Draft, know that itch.

And they are eying a way to scratch it.

Abdul Carter is seen by some as the best defensive player in the draft; indeed, he might end up being the best player in this draft at any position.

The Giants, who are in a great position to draft him at No. 3 with the Tennessee Titans (1), and the Cleveland Browns (2) expect to take other players with their selections.

It seems that Carter, as he was recently touring the Giants' facility on a pre-Draft visit, snapped a picture of Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor, who had his photo hanging up in the facility.

Carter then chose to post it on X.

And the "Next LT'' thing was born in the Big Apple.

Speculation has run wild about what Carter's post means. ... but it doesn't seem very complex to us.

Among his dreams is to be a member of the Giants and that he hopes they pick him at No. 3.

There is a slogan imprinted on the bottom of the LT photo that reads, "Once a Giant, always a Giant.'' That worked for Taylor.

It can work for Carter.
