Giants fire OL coach Marc Colombo after verbal confrontation with head coach Joe Judge
New York Giants head coach Joe Judge made a change during the bye week coming off two consecutive victories.
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero (h/t Nick Shook ) reported that the Giants fired offensive line coach Marc Colombo before the end of his first full season in the role. Veteran assistant Dave DeGuglielmo, who previously worked with Judge when both were employed by the New England Patriots and whom the Giants had previously hired as a consultant, will replace Colombo.
Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported earlier in the week that Judge was spending additional time with the offensive line to help improve the unit's play.
According to Jordan Raanan of ESPN, Colombo felt undermined by the hiring of DeGuglielmo and got into a verbal confrontation with Judge on Tuesday night. Rumors of any physical altercation between the two have been dismissed by multiple credible outlets.
New York's offensive line has routinely received criticism in recent years and throughout the club's 1-7 start to what seemed, only a few weeks ago, to be a lost campaign.
The Giants then accumulated 166 yards on the ground during a 23-20 win over the Washington Football Team on Nov. 8 and followed that by rushing for 151 yards in this past Sunday's 27-17 win over the Philadelphia Eagles that improved Big Blue to 3-6 and put New York within striking distance of the 3-5-1 Eagles in the division race.
