Giants have training camp brawl after Saquon Barkley hit

Perhaps members of the New York Giants could learn from New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh as it pertains to his rule regarding players not throwing punches during inevitable training camp skirmishes.

According to Darryl Slater of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com, a "brawl exploded Monday during Giants training camp practice" stemming from a blow initially delivered by running back Saquon Barkley.

Barkley lowered his shoulder to run through cornerback Aaron Robinson, who was knocked to the grass after he apparently wasn't prepared for such contact. Linebacker Tae Crowder "rushed over and objected to how Barkley was playing" and then "got tangled up with" center Jon Feliciano a couple of plays later. Feliciano tried to knee Crowder, and linebacker Cam Brown attempted to pull Feliciano away. This annoyed offensive line coach Bobby Johnson, who responded by pushing Brown. Feliciano then tried to punch Brown in the helmet from behind, which is almost always a poor decision.

Additionally, inside linebackers coach John Egorugwu yelled at Johnson and "had to be pulled away."

Head coach Brian Daboll didn't appear to punish those involved after the fact but did speak with his players for roughly 10 minutes following the unpleasantries. Slater added there were no further incidents after Daboll finished addressing the team.

"It’s all love," outside linebacker Jihad Ward said about the Big Blue locker room. He added: "Everything got a little hectic with the wild hugs and stuff like that. I was looking at greatness. I was just like, 'Damn, look at that — the brotherhood that we have.' It’s a good feeling."

Meanwhile, rookie tight end Daniel Bellinger admitted that Daboll told the players that "losing teams do that" immediately after the fight.

The Giants open the preseason at the New England Patriots on Thursday evening.
