Giants Pro Bowl RB Saquon Barkley expected to begin practicing this week

New York Giants fans can rejoice.

Saquon Barkley is expected to be activated off the PUP list this week and begin practicing, according to ESPN's Jordan Raanan.

The Giants have been cautious with Barkley during his recovery from a season-ending knee injury suffered during the 2020 campaign. The 24-year-old tore his ACL in addition to sustaining meniscus damage.

Giants head coach Joe Judge reiterated throughout the offseason that the team would not rush Barkley back to the field and said last week that the star running back is "making a lot of strides."

The Penn State product was limited to just two games in 2020 due to the knee injury. In 2019, he ran for 1,003 yards and six touchdowns with 52 catches for 438 yards and two scores.

It's unclear if Barkley will be ready to suit up for Week 1 when the Giants take on the Denver Broncos on Sept. 12.
