Giants QB Jake Fromm on possibly starting: 'It’s like preparing for a final test and you didn’t show up for any of the classes'

The 4-8 New York Giants certainly are up against it heading into Sunday's game at the 7-5 Los Angeles Chargers. New York starting quarterback Daniel Jones is on track to miss his second straight contest with a strained neck that, per rumors, could keep him out through the remainder of the season. Meanwhile, backup Mike Glennon currently can't practice after landing in the league's concussion protocol following this past Sunday's loss at the Miami Dolphins.

This leaves 2020 fifth-round draft pick Jake Fromm, officially signed off the practice squad of the Buffalo Bills last week, atop the depth chart at the sport's most important position for Big Blue. Fromm has never attempted a pass in a regular-season NFL game but, according to Tom Rock of Newsday, is preparing as if he'll be QB1 at the Chargers.

"It's a lot of learning," Fromm said on Wednesday. "It's like preparing for a final test and you didn't show up for any of the classes. But it's fun."

Head coach Joe Judge seemed confident Glennon will clear the concussion protocol by the weekend.

Realistically, Fromm probably needs at least another week with the playbook before he should see any snaps against a live defense. Assuming doctors don't clear Jones for contact again until next year, the Giants have little to lose in taking a look at Fromm at some point over the final four games of what's become another lost season for the franchise.

Playing Glennon over a fully prepared Fromm serves little purpose once the Giants are eliminated from playoff contention.
